Dear parents, carers and friends,

Where did November go? Oh yes, probably washed down the storm drain in the front playground…

Even though the days are disappearing faster than fir trees in a forest, we still have plenty coming up in the remainder of the term to keep us entertained. Next week, the children will join in activities based around the theme of Personal and Social education, thinking about the things that help make strong and positive relationships. We will also work on events in line with national anti-bullying week, including drama workshops and assemblies.

Then of course we are into two weeks of December madness. We will publish a full timetable closer to the time. There will be the usual programme of productions and events, and I believe you have already received letters about pantomime / theatre trips.

We have already negotiated with the kitchen staff that Christmas dinner will be served on Wednesday 19^th December (more info to follow).

As you will know, two weeks ago we were visited by inspectors from OfSTED. We are still awaiting the final report (but are hoping, with fingers crossed, to receive it very soon). What we can say is that we are delighted with the initial findings. Once we have a complete report, the governors will write to you all with a copy of the report for you to share and discuss.

Finally, you should last night have received a letter about the car park. Governors have discussed the use of the car park in the light of some very close shaves, with children using the car park being put at risk. As a result, the car park will be out of bounds from 8.40-9.10 each morning, and 3.00-3.30 each afternoon. We would stress that this move is for the safety of the children, and thank you all for your co-operation in this matter. We have discussed it at length at governors and with the local police, who support this move.

Therefore, the next time I write to you will be with the Christmas timetable, so diaries at the ready everyone.

Newsletter 15.11.12

Dear parents, carers and friends,

I’m amazed that we find ourselves already at the end of week 2! We’re so busy, and there are so many things happening, it’s hard to keep up.

This week, as many of you know, we have been visited by OfSTED inspectors. I will be able to share the results with you all soon.

Tomorrow, we celebrate Children in Need. You have already had your letters (hopefully) to remind you that it’s school uniform, but a little bit spotty…

Just a reminder that if you want to order school photos, please return the completed envelopes to the office by the end of Tuesday 20^th November. Also, please can you make sure that when paying for school dinners, trips etc at the office you have the correct change.

During the week beginning the 26^th November, we will hold parents’ evenings to allow you opportunities to meet your child’s class teacher. Letters and details will go out next week, ready for the evenings.

Last week, 39 children went to Bristol Hippodrome to see the Lion King. I received a letter from one of the governors, which simply says: “May I take this opportunity to congratulate all the children who went to watch the spectacular, amazing, stupendous , spell binding, spine tingling performance of the Lion King”. Is he talking about the Lion King, or the children? I would like to think both, but a very good time appears to be had by all. What next Miss Dark?

Finally, a look back. Term 1 attendance was a little low, especially by the high standards we set last year. Attendance for term 1 was 93% - low for us recently. I know that there was some illness in term 1, and many of you were brilliant in calling the school to let us know. However, there were a few odd days here and there which cannot be accounted for. Hopefully (and I know term 2 has brought us a sickness bug already) we can ensure our attendance improves before end of term 2.

Finally, just a huge thank you for all your participation in recent events around the school. Skipathon, clubs, Jeans for Genes – you were there for everything. Your support is invaluable, and makes the experience better for the children.
