Dear parents, carers and friends,

I am amazed that it is almost Easter, and the end of term 4. Just to round things off, let’s share some of the good news we can all aspire – achieve – enjoy:

• We’re well on the way to meeting our own challenging targets;
• Attendance is up on term 3, and overall on the same time last year;
• The school role is higher than predicted;
• All visitors have reported back that Badock’s Wood is a good place to be, and we’re heading in the right direction.

Tomorrow, we start our new project with the Children’s Centre, about which we are all extremely excited.

I am indebted to everyone who has played their part in a busy, hectic and incredibly exciting term. As you all know, school closes today for the end of term 4. Term 5 begins on Monday 16th April.

Sadly, we say goodbye to our friend Mr Vaisey today, who is leaving us for pastures new. I’m sure you will all join me in saying a huge “thank you” for all his work here, and in saying good luck in his new venture.

So, the message today is simple: thank you, well done everyone, bring on the next challenge!

Have a superb, relaxing, peaceful (sunny) break everyone, and here’s to what we all hope will be an amazing summer term.

Yours faithfully,

Zak Willis

PS All the best Vaisey

PPS See you all on MONDAY 16th!

Dear parents, carers and friends,

Attendance for term 4 has so far been much better than term 3. Thank you (most of you) so much for your efforts – it has made a huge difference. Term 4 is fairly short – it ends for pupils on Thursday 29th March at 3.20. Friday 30th March will be an Inset day for staff from the school and Children’s Centre.

However, we’ve got loads to cram in between now and then. Next week, as many of you are already signed up to, are parents’ evenings. Please let us know if you are unable to make it but still want a time – we will always try and fit you in! Just so you all know the processes within the school, staff will also hand in all their assessment data next week, and, having looked at the books recently, I cannot wait to see the amount of progress the children have clearly made.

Next week you will be asked to participate in our annual community cohesion questionnaire, and will be able to make your first contribution towards our work with our new partners at the Children’s Centre.

Next Friday, to make our contribution to Sports Relief 2012, we will be holding The Biggest Running Club Ever! Everyone is welcome – from pushchairs to pensioners - to come along and complete the Sports Relief mile at the end of school on Friday 23rd. Sponsorship forms went out with the children yesterday, so please give as generously as you can.

On Wednesday 28th March, the Easter Bonnet parade arrives in town. All entries are to be homemade, with prizes awarded at the event.

Finally, although we will remind you closer to the time, school reopens for (a very long and hectic) term 5 on Monday 16th April for everyone.

Yours faithfully,

Zak Willis

PS PARENTS OF YEAR 6 PUPILS – SATs week is the week beginning the 14th May. Look out for letters with full details from Mrs Brown.

Thursday, 1 March 2012

Dear parents, carers and friends,

It is almost staggering to believe that we are now well into the second half of the year. As ever, things are busy and exciting, and we have many more projects on the horizon.

The most important news to share with you at this point is an exciting project that will allow us to offer even more services to you as a whole family. From 2012, Badock’s Wood Primary School and Southmead Children’s centre will start to work collaboratively under the leadership of one governing body, with the ability to offer you all services from birth to 11 years old. This is an exciting opportunity for us all, and one we are looking forward to embarking upon.

Between now and September, we will be asking you all to contribute to the vision of this new service to help us build and develop the best services we can for people and families in Southmead. If you have any thoughts or ideas you would like to share with us in the short term, please come and see either myself or one of the governors. This exciting news will be publicly announced at the Southmead Neighbourhood forum this evening.

In school, we are now inviting applications for the administrative post in the school office; this post is for 10 hours per week to cover the office at the end of the school day, 5 days a week. Application forms are available from the office, and will be expected to be returned before Friday 9th March.

Just to give you advance warning on some dates coming up this term:

Monday 5th / Wednesday 7th March – visit from the local authority

Week commencing 19th March – parents’ evenings; letters coming soon

Thursday 22nd March – the biggest running club in the world ever! Your chance to complete the sport relief mile

Wednesday 28th March – Easter Bonnets

Thursday 29th March – School closes for pupils; Friday 30th March – Inset day

During this term we will also conduct our annual community cohesion questionnaires, and start gathering your thoughts on our exciting new partnership. As you can see, as busy as ever! Have a great term 4 everyone.

Yours,

Zak Willis
